Painting with oils was something of a surprise for me – I am used to painting quick, with expressive brushstrokes, usually called ‘alla prima’ (basically meaning ‘in one go’). I almost never go back to a painting I put aside, as I feel disconnected from it once left. But the texture of oil paints is something altogether wonderful and I keep coming back to them. Therefore, I will need to learn patience.
